چکیده

Promise problems have been introduced in 1985 by S.Even e.a. as a generalization of decision problems. Using a very general approach we study solvability and unsolvability conditions for promise problems of set families and languages. We show, that cores of unsolvability are completely determined by partitions of cohesive sets. We prove the existence of cores in unsolvable promise problems assuming certain closure properties for the given set family. Connections to immune sets and complexity cores are presented. Furthermore, results about cohesiveness with respect to the language families from the Chomsky hierarchy are given. 1991 Mathematics Subject Classification. 68Q45.

Unsolvability Cores in Classification Problems

Classification problems have been introduced by M. Ziegler as a generalization of promise problems. In this paper we are concerned with solvability and unsolvability questions with respect to a given set or language family, especially with cores of unsolvability. We generalize the results about unsolvability cores in promise problems to classification problems. Our main results are a characteri...

Towards Computational Tools for Supporting the Reflective Team

The content of engineering design documentation, beyond capturing the details of the design, communicates the shared knowledge integration of the design team. In this research, we present a method to analyze design documentation for levels of shared understanding and team cohesiveness in design teams by applying the computational tools of latent semantic analysis and natural language processing...

Nonstandard Methods in Ramsey’s Theorem for Pairs

We discuss the use of nonstandard methods in the study of Ramsey type problems, and illustrate this with an example concerning the existence of definable solutions in models of BΣ2 for the combinatorial principles of Ramsey’s Theorem for pairs and cohesiveness.

Moderating Effects of Group Cohesiveness in Competency- Performance Relationships: A Multi-Level Study

This study examines the moderating effect of group cohesiveness both at the individual and at the group level. In the individual-level study, moderating effect of group cohesiveness was tested with 249 employees from a Korean manufacturing company. Group cohesiveness turned out to have a negative moderating effect on the individual competency-performance relationship, and this finding suggests ...

Designing Effective Group Activities: Lessons for Classroom Teaching and Faculty Development

The primary objective of this article is to provide readers with guidance for designing effective group assignments and activities for classes and workshops. In doing so, we examine the forces that foster social loafing (uneven participation) in learning groups and identify four key variables that must be managed in order to create a group environment that is conducive for broad-based member pa...
